Rising singer-songwriter Jacob Banks’ eagerly-awaited debut album, Village, is available today via Polydor Records. Inspired by the proverb “it takes a village,” the album explores human themes and experiences, both good and bad, that universally shape our lives. Village was recorded alongside notable producers including Paul Epworth (Adele, James Bay, FKA twigs) and Malay (Frank Ocean, Sam Smith, Lorde), and features previously released tracks “Be Good To Me,” “Love Ain’t Enough,” “Chainsmoking,” “Unknown (To You),” and “Slow Up.”
In conjunction with Village’s release, YouTube has hand-selected Jacob as their December Artist on the Rise. The announcement was revealed this past Monday via a massive billboard in New York City’s Times Square that will remain up through Sunday in promotion of Village. As YouTube’s emerging artist program, Artist on the Rise spotlights one up-and-coming artist each month and connects them with fans worldwide through in-product promotion and programming, editorial, social media, and fan events at YouTube Spaces.
Jacob recently performed his critically-acclaimed single “Unknown (To You)” on Later… with Jools Holland, and he stopped by Billboard last week to give fans a sneak peek of Village. The Village tour marks Jacob’s second headlining world tour, following last year’s Into The Wild tour. From opening for artists including Emeli Sandé, Sam Smith, and Alicia Keys to playing major festivals like Coachella, SXSW, Austin City Limits, and Lollapalooza, Jacob has captivated audiences around the globe. His live shows have been raved about, with LA Weekly proclaiming “UK-based, Nigeria-born artist Jacob Banks lets his art speak for itself, proving he’s a force to reckon with in the music game,” and Atlanta’s WABE declaring “Banks is proving himself one of the most promising up and coming musicians today.”
